Upper secondary schools
Akershus County Council owns and runs 34 upper secondary schools in Akershus. The total number of pupils attending the schools is just over 20,000.
Apprentices
We are responsible for the apprenticeship schemes of the county. Approximately 1000 pupils sign a contract of apprenticeship each year.

Guidance & counselling services for upper secondary school
The guideance & counselling service for the educational sector in Akershus county contains four different services:
Educational and psychological services
(Norwegian: Pedagogisk – psykologisk tjeneste – PPT). The service supports upper secondary schools in delivery the best education for students, whilst focusing on giving advice to the schools on issues related to students with special needs. The service also advices the schools regarding school development and organizations and offers counselling to teachers and students.
Follow-up services
(Norwegian: Oppfølgingstjenesten - OT). The service supports and gives assistance to youth in their search and application for jobs. It also advises the youth in making the right educational choices in the Upper secondary school level. The service in addition acts as a coordinator with other institutions that these youths are in contact with.
Career services
(Norwegian: Karrieretjenesten). The career service gives support to career guidance in the lower and upper secondary schools. The services have special focus on transitions between the various within the school systems and into working life.
Adult education
(Voksenopplæringen). The adult education section gives information and advises adults of their rights and opportunities for education in the upper secondary school system. The service initiates classes for adults from the age of 25 years. This right applies to individuals who have not completed their upper secondary school education.

The commissioner for pupils and apprentices
The task of the commissioner for pupils and apprentices is to protect pupils and apprentices against unfair treatment. The commissioner offers advice on rights and duties, assisting in particular cases if needed.
