Akershus County Council
Akershus County Council is a democratically elected body with regional responsibilities in areas such as education, transport, dental care and regional development.
The County Council is governed by politicians elected by popular vote. The County Mayor of Akershus is Anette Solli, and Deputy County Mayor Lars B. Salvesen.
Akershus County Council has regional responsibilities in the following areas:
- Regional planning and development
- Industrial development
- Dental care
- Public health
- Culture and voluntary organisations
- Cultural heritage
- International relations
The County Council is the supreme political body of the county, making decisions on important matters and matters of principle. The County Council of Akershus has 43 representatives.
Committees: The County Council has created four main committees. In certain matters, they have decision-making authority, in others they prepare matters for the County Council. The four committees are:
Committee for Transport
Committee for Culture and Sports
- Committee for Education and Competence
- Committee for Planning, Economic Development and Environment
The County Executive Board is mainly concerned with matters relating to finance and planning. In addition, it prepares matters for the County Council. The board consists of 13 members, all derived from the County Council.
